Twins Through Four Generations

Beulah had a son, Lee. Lee had a daughter, Marsha. Marsha had a son, Jeff. Four generations, two sets of twins, and we think we see some familial similarities.

Beulah and Marsha, grandmother & granddaughter.
Both had fraternal twins.

Lee and Jeff, grandfather & grandson.
Both were fraternal twins.

What do you think?  Do you see similarities?

. . . . . . . . . .
This is a Sepia Saturday post. You can go look for posts and photos about twins but I think it's more likely you'll see photos of people in hats this week. Join the fun and post some old photos if you'd like. Everyone's invited.

  1. Indeed, the apples don't not fall far from the trees. There are some striking similarities.

  2. Great likenesses you have there! ♥

  3. Yes indeed - lots of similarities. I have a photo of my great aunt at age 16 (about 1925) that my children always thought was a picture of me. That's why I always study old photos to find "our" noses, chins, jawlines, eyes.

  5. It is so interesting to follow the looks through generations.

  6. There definitely are similarities, but they don't look too much alike.

  7. I can see the likeness between them.

I was also struck by the hat in one of 'You might also like' pictures!

  8. I've never seen a posting like this. Nancy, are you a twin or are there any in your immediate family?

  9. Wendy, I hope you'll post the two photos sometime. I don't think I look like any of my ancestors but my brother thought he saw a resemblance between me and one of Beulah's sisters. It is interesting to look for similarities.

Bob, now I'm wondering which post suggestion you saw with a hat. The "you might also like" suggestions change every time the blog/page loads. Now I'll have to go back through my photos. Hmmmm.

Barbara, I'm not a twin. My father, Lee, is a twin and my sister, Marsha, had twins. Because fraternal twins skip a generation and go from father, through daughter, who often has the twins, my sister and I knew that one or both of us would be more likely to have twins.

There are twins in my mother's line, too. I wrote a post earlier about twins in our family. If you're interested you can read it at http://nancysfamilyhistoryblog.blogspot.com/2010/10/twins-run-in-family.html.

Thank you Rob, Jinksy, Wendy, Nell, Kristin, Postcardy, Bob, and Barbara for coming to visit and leaving comments. I appreciate it.

  10. It's in the eyebrows, I think.

Hey Nancy, how come you never told me about the chicken photo? ha ha

  11. Kat, eyebrows and smiles, too, I think.

  12. When I first looked at the pictures, I saw similarities between the two women and the two men. After reading the rest of your post, I am in total agreement.

  13. Spooky. My uncle once mistook a photo of my great grandfather for my brother. I must find a photo of my brother with a moustache and post the two of them together. Very close family resemblances in your pictures :-)

  14. That is fascinating.

I have one photo of my maternal great-grandmother who died when my grandfather was young. I have no information about her, but I look at the photo and know where I came from. I look so much like her.

  15. Striking similarities there. When our daughter became pregnant for the second time, I joked about there being twins in the family. Next thing we know, she gives birth to identical twin girls.

  16. Twins is a pleasant change after 35 hats. Great fun tracing the genetic links writ large on the faces.

  17. yes it is fun to see those similarities descending through the ages....twins...once in my teen years I mentioned that I wished I were twins to which Mom blanched! Twins were in our genes too, but she always said that 2 of me would have put here 6 foot under! I just wanted to do more than one thing and in my pre-teen mind that would have been solved with being a twin!

  18. A great layout and presentation. Comparing family resemblance in vintage photos is a universal entertainment and will always be the great pleasure of photo collections.

  19. It's amazing how much Aunt Marsha and g-grandma look alike and also Jeff and Grandpa. Especially the similarities to be passed from grandparents to grandchildren.

I can definitely see the very similar mouths of Aunt Marsha and Beulah and then Jeff and Grandpa. I also think the eyes look very similar! Wow! Definitely related!

That's what happens when you show late... It's ok!! Fun presentation, and the blood line is obvious here, indeed!!
