As It Happened...

I've been more absent from than present at this blog for several months, since about the middle of November, with only holiday posts.  November, December, and January have not been kind to me.  About the middle of November I developed (what seemed to me to be severe) sciatica.  (Do you ever feel like your body has rebelled against itself?)  I wished I could take off my body like a union suit, gently wash it, very gently rinse it, and then hang it to dry, hoping that when I put it back on, the pain would have washed away.  Ah, I'm such a wishful thinker sometimes.

Just as that was improving with the help of physical therapy, the email account I most use was hacked and, from what I can tell, hijacked.  At best I struggle with technology so that was a challenging learning experience.  Thank goodness my daughter, who knows so much more than I do, was available to help.  I know several people who lost money because of the hackers.

Then, on Christmas evening I began to feel terrible.  I was certain the problem was allergies or a sinus infection.  By midweek it hadn't improved and when I called to schedule a doctor's appointment I was told that I couldn't go into the office until I'd received a negative Covid test.  The office scheduled the test for the next Tuesday, and the results came through the next day.  What I saw on the doctor's portal website looked like the test was negative so I scheduled an appointment for Thursday morning.  Early Thursday morning the doctor's receptionist called to tell me I couldn't go into the office because the test was, in fact, positive.  I had been so careful to wear a mask, to keep a safe distance from people, to sanitize store carts and especially my hands after being in a store and before touching my face or food.  But it wasn't enough.  The Omicron strand is so virulent.  It's taking a long time to feel better.

As it happened, because of all that, I missed the end of the year review posts and I've missed the beginning of the year posts.  I guess, for me, things will just continue as in the past, at least until I finally feel better.  I hope to return to more regular posts soon.

  3. Oh dear Nancy. Not you too! You are so right. This strain is extremely virulent. So many of my nearest and dearest have caught it. We are reaching our peak in Brisbane now I think. Please get well soon.

  4. I have had sciatica and I can say that it is worse than labor pains. I have had it off and on for three years. This fall it got worse and I am having surgery soon.

Someone said getting old is not for sissies and they are right. Wearing my mask and avoiding others, I don't want to get Covid before the surgery.

    Hope you are doing well.

    1. Claudia, I agree about sciatica being worse than labor! I'm so sorry you've had to deal with is for so long. I hope the surgery you'll be having helps. Did you try physical therapy and did it help at all? I hope you stay well (and Covid stays far away from you) so your surgery can proceed as planned. Take care!
