December Celebrations Among Family Members
December is an unusual month for birthdays and anniversaries among my family members because no living relatives have either, and only one set of grandparents has an anniversary.
But December, in general, seemed to be a popular month for weddings. I can imagine that to be true for farmers but of the marriages among family this month, only Gust and Beulah were farmers. But, as 1897 wedding lore suggests, December was one of the luckiest months to marry.
You may notice that two people name Emma Doyle were born this month. Emma, born 1884, is the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Laws) Doyle, and Emma, born 1886, is the daughter of William and Tressa (Froman) Doyle. William and the first Emma are siblings which means she became an aunt when she was only two. I wonder if the younger called the older Aunt Emma or if they grew up with a relationship more like cousins.
